Why isn’t the Serial Number correctly identified for my iPhone?

There are several devices that can be connected, and therefore detected as various device types, depending also on the computer Operating System.

An iPhone is one of such devices. Besides being a smartphone, it is also an USB Storage Device. Although USB devices are identified via Vendor ID, Product ID and serial number, Apple prohibits access to the device identifying data visible in the iOS Settings app. These security limitations imposed by Apple are further extended as the USB Serial Number is also used by the iTunes to name the backup folder for an iPhone on the computer.

As such, the Serial Number displayed by Endpoint Protector will be the iPhone’s USB Storage Device serial number and not the iPhone Serial Number displayed in the phone’s settings menu.
